Number

The Factoring Calculator finds all factors and factor pairs of a positive or negative number. It’s simple – еnter an integer number to find its factors. Use Prime Factorization Calculator to find prime factors.

What is factors

Factors are the numbers you multiply together to get another number.

There can be many factors of a number.

Example: All the factors of 18.

Because

  • 1 × 18 = 18,
  • 2 × 9 = 18,
  • 3 × 6 = 18.

then 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 18 are factors of 18. Check on the Factoring Calculator.

Numbers that have only two factors, that are, 1 and the number itself are the Prime numbers. For example, the first 10 prime numbers are 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17, 19, 23 and 29.

Factors of a Negative Number

Negative numbers factor similarly to positive numbers but the process is slightly different.

A negative number will always have one negative factor.

For example, the factors of −18 are: 1 and −18, −1 and 18, 2 and -9, 9 and -2, 3 and −6, 6 and -3, . This is because each of these factor pairs, when multiplied together, produce −18, as follows:

  • 1 × -18 = -18
  • 2 × -9 = -18
  • 3 × -6 = -18
  • 6 × -3 = -18
  • 9 × -2 = -18
  • 18 × -1 = -18
